If you are good with numbers and looking for a new career, a degree in finance may be just the thing for you. With all of the advances in modern technology, college is as close as your keyboard. To decide which college offers the degree for which you are looking, again head for that keyboard.

Go online and do some research into online degrees. You can now complete a college degree in the comfort of your own home. You can go to school while you continue to work at your present job, or you can go full-time as well. The choices are all up to you. You learn on your time schedule and at your convenience.

At the end of the article, there is a list of web sites to aid you in your research. Each site is a bit different and may list different colleges. You will notice several colleges are mention in more than one source as they offer many online degree programs and at several levels. A site may just have an alphabetical listing of colleges and you will have to click on the ones in which your are interested.

Check several colleges to see what each one offers in their online finance degree programs. Some have a form to fill out for more detailed information. If you check on the college/university web site, they will have more detailed information. When searching for information, use key words in different combinations to find the most results. Some of those key words would include: online finance degrees, finance degrees online, online degrees in finance, online degree finance, online degree in finance, accredited finance degrees online, and online finance degree programs. Using these combinations, you will find a wide selection of colleges that offer these programs.

Some of the online finance degrees available include bachelor degrees in Business/Financial Management, Corporate Finance, Accounting/Finance, Business Administration and Finance, Financial Analysis, Financial Planning, Financial Management and Marketing, and Financial Forensics (the field that covers financial fraud and crime analysis). Several of these universities offer online finance degrees at the master’s level as well.

The opportunities for jobs in the field of finance over the next ten years are expanding. The Bureau of Statistics estimates an increase of 5%-30% in the jobs available, dependent on the area of finance. The pay is also dependent on the field as well. The lowest entry salary in finance is listed as a Real Estate Appraiser at a median average of $47,370, according to the 2008 statistics.

The median average salary for a Personal Financial Planner was listed at $69,050. The highest salary listed was for a Financial Planner at median salary of $99,330. As with any job, the salary varies with the level of education, years of experience, duties, location, and the company. The outlook for advancement is excellent in the field of finance.

The universities mentioned most frequently on the web sites below are: University of Phoenix, Kaplan University, American Intercontinental University, DeVry University, Ashford University, Post University, Drexel University, Colorado Technical University, and Jones Internet University. Log on to the web sites, and check out each of the universities in which you have an interest.

Then go to each of the universities web sites to check out the programs available online. Be sure the online program you select is accredited. If you don’t find all the information you want online, call the college of business at that university and ask to speak to an instructor. Request the information you need and ask them to send you a course catalog. Be sure you write down all your questions before you call.

You don’t want to forget an important one. While on the phone, ask about fees for online classes, expectations, projects, chat rooms, access to instructor, how you will get textbooks, and how you will take tests. Financial aid is also available for online college, so ask about that as well.

Once you decide which universities offer the programs in which you are interested, send off your applications. You may apply to several different universities and after you get accepted, you can then make your final decision. You will go through the same procedures for admission to an online college as you would for an on-campus class. You must provide all documentation and transcripts to each university. Once you are admitted, you can choose the classes you wish to take. You will have the same coursework as you would for an on-campus degree.

You will also have deadlines for papers and you may be required to have chats with your fellow classmates in an online chat-room. Good time management skills are a plus in this area. You can finish a degree online in finance in the same time it would take for an on-campus finance degree. If you go full-time, you should be able to finish a bachelor degree in four years or less. If you go part-time, it may take a bit longer. The time required is dependent on you and your circumstances. You set your own study schedule to suit your family and job constraints.

If this all sounds like the career of your dreams, and you are a highly motivated person who can get things done, then go for it. Get on your computer and start doing your search for the university that best meets your needs. Go to the search sites, check out the schools, find the finance degree you want, and send off those applications. Once you are accepted, registered, and all your books are bought and delivered, you can get on line and on track to that finance college degree and the career of a lifetime.

Going to college is now easier than ever. You can get a college degree in your spare time by going to college online. Accounting is one of the fields in high demand that offers a good salary and opportunities for advancement. There are many universities that offer online associate, bachelor, and master degrees in accounting.

Choose the degree, choose the school, enroll, and you’re on your way to a career in accounting. You may attend college part-time while you continue working at your present job. All it takes is a computer, an Internet connection, and a good work ethic. You will attend classes online, do research online, send papers online, and do it on your own schedule. You can even drink your favorite coffee in class, while relaxing in your favorite recliner. There will be no commuting or parking problems. Getting your degree in accounting online couldn’t be easier; it’s a win-win situation!

Choosing your college/university is an easy process when done online. Several web sites are listed at the end of the article, which will assist you in your search for the right school for you. Each site offers something a little different from the others. You will notice several colleges are listed on more than one site, which means they may offer more than one degree.

Some of the colleges mentioned several times are the University of Phoenix, DeVry University, Kaplan University, American Intercontinental University, Colorado Technical University, Penn Foster, Jones International University, Post University, and Drexel University. Click on the colleges in which you are interested and go to the listings of degrees available online. If that college does not offer the degree you desire, click on another college.

When searching online, use some of the keywords in different combinations to find the most sites. Some examples would be online accounting degrees, accounting degrees online, Business/Accounting degrees online, online business degrees, distance learning degrees, online accredited accounting degrees, online accounting programs, and Business Management degrees online. If you still haven’t found what you want with those combinations, make a few of your own and try them too.

Some of the colleges/universities offer associate degrees, while others offer bachelor and master degrees. Each web site provides information about the colleges on their site, or they will redirect you to the college/university web page. The colleges may provide the information you need on their web page, or they may have a form requesting your name and information like your email and zip code.

They will mail or email the requested information to you. If the web site has an alphabetical listing of colleges, click on the colleges you wish to explore, and see which degrees they offer. You can find many alternate web sites from the five in the list provided below. Each of these sites will provide you with even more information about online accounting degrees.

The majority of the colleges listed offered Bachelor’s degrees in General Business, Corporate Finance, Sales and Marketing, Business Administration, Business Communication, Accounting and Finance, and Business and Technology. The coursework listed most often in the various programs included economics, statistics, business law, finance, marketing, accounting, business management, technology, tax accounting, and financial planning. Most college web sites listed all the course work required for each degree available. The requirements for the degrees were the same online and on-campus. Some colleges not only prepared you for your degree, but also offered online Master’s levels courses for an MBA should you decide to continue your education. One university also provided courses to prepare for the MBA, CPA, CFA, and CFE certification exams.

You may also call the college/university and ask to speak to a counselor/advisor in the field of accounting. You should ask if there are any extra fees for online degrees, how will the exams be taken (online or in person), how should you contact your instructor, are individual or group projects required, and any other questions you may have. Write down your questions in a notebook where you can also record your answers.

If you are unable to talk to a counselor, email your questions to an accounting faculty member. Most colleges/universities list all their instructors/professors and the areas in which they teach in the online information about the college. One important fact you need to check is the accreditation of the online degree program in accounting at each college. Most businesses accept online degrees from accredited colleges.

The degrees offered vary from college to college. One College/University may offer only one or two degrees while others offer ten or more. The degrees may be called Business/Finance, Business/Accounting, Business Administration, Business/Technology, Accounting/Finance, and even Business Forensics (fraud and crime analysis of businesses).

The requirements for applying to an online college/university are the same as applying on-campus such as providing transcripts, applying for financial aid, paying fees, and waiting for acceptance. All of these things may be done online as well. The time required for a degree is the same as for an on-campus degree. An associate degree takes about two years to complete and a bachelor degree takes about four years.

The time required depends on you. If you go full-time, you will finish sooner. The cost for an online degree is comparable to an on-campus degree. Check out your favorite schools and choose an area of interest. Research each college thoroughly. You may apply to more than one college, and then select from those where you are accepted. Do not register until you’re sure that the college you have chosen is the one for you.

When selecting your college degree, keep in mind the higher the degree, the higher the pay! The jobs available with an associate’s degree will not pay as much as one with a bachelor’s degree or a master’s degree. The starting salary for someone with an online bachelor degree in accounting is around $50,000. The Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that over a million jobs opportunities will be available in the accounting field over the next ten years. The jobs are out there, you just need to do your research, select a college, get your degree, and start a better paying job in a field you love.

In the United States there are many universities that offer courses in banking. Banking, itself, for the most part is not considered a primary major or minor course of study that one student chooses to earn a degree in. Banking courses are usually part of a university curriculum that will prepare a student to earn a degree in either finance or economics. These degrees are offered on both the undergraduate and graduate university levels. The undergraduate usually earns a B.A. (Bachelors of Arts) degree in finance or economics. On the graduate school levels one earns a M.B.A. in either finance or economics.

So, what university offers the best courses in banking? Since banking falls in line with finance and economics and has to do with the overall scope of the money system we are forced to look at colleges and universities that are strong in the areas of finance and economics.

Every year, within the United States, there is a national recognized magazine called, “The U.S. News and World Report”. This magazine covers both college rankings and rankings that deal with health, science, law, politics & policy etc… This magazine is highly used and recommended by almost everyone. It has been in existence to serving the American public since 1933. For the year 2011 the university that ranked most popular for banking was the University of Pennsylvania (undergraduate) and the University of Pennsylvania-Wharton School of Business (graduate level).

How do we know that this ranking is the best? Well, for starters, the highest ranking university for employing both graduates and undergraduates in the field of finance or economics with not only an above average salary but, with alumni connections far more than any other ranked college or university in that area is ranked as one of the best. In fact, the former CEO of Apple Inc., John Sculley is an alumnus of the University of Pennsylvania-Wharton School of Business.

Other ways of ranking the universities are known as “Tiers” or levels of popularity. Tier levels start at zero and end at three. Zero is the highest ranked tier; University of Pennsylvania and its Wharton School of Business are on this tier. Other universities with popularity can also be ranked zero. Well, what makes colleges and universities on the same tier different? It’s the above mentioned factors and the major course of study the college or university is ranked most popular for.

Well, here I am biased because I am graduating with a Masters degree in I/O Psychology from Northcentral University this June. They are regionally accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools as well as accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). This makes them especially attractive for someone wanting to gain on online degree.

They have several MBA programs to choose from and have an unbelievable amount of experience represented through their professors, which they actually call mentors. Other than being a student and soon to be graduate, I have no other ties to Northcentral University, meaning no financial gain from advertising them or sneaky referral links embedded in this article, so if you are interested in finding out more check them out at www.ncu.edu.

an important thing to remember when looking for online schools is their accreditation, there are several so called colleges that claim accreditation, which may be true, but the agency they claim accusation through are not reputable. A good way to check on the school you are interested in is via www.chea.org. Another quick tip, even though some schools are old enough on the internet to do this before proving accreditation, most reputable schools are going to have web addresses ending in “.edu”.

Now, of course if you are interested in following my lead in I/O Psychology, there is a management track in organizational behavior, so depending what your interests and undergraduate experience is can play a factor in what track you follow. I work in government finance, which is a job I will retire from in September this year, and I was very tempted to enroll in their post graduate certificate program in Financial Management which follows the education track for senior leaders in the government financial management positions. I also asked the question, as I’m an I/O Psychologist, if they would be offering a program that could build upon my specific degree about six months ago when they did not offer it, guess what they have now?!

North-central University is probably my favorite because they obviously listen to their students and really work with you to help get you to your goal. However, if you are looking to go beyond a Certificate of Graduate studies they have to still follow the rules of accreditation in offering the Doctorate of Business administration, Management, or PhD programs. What this means is you have to go through the entire process of a dissertation; proposal all the way to defense in person.

Nowadays, investment bankers are the backbone of most bank, corporations and financial institutions. Gaining skills, knowledge and experience is crucial if you have plans of becoming an investment broker, especially in the field of investment banking in international and local economies.
The field of investment banking have experience impressive growth in the recent years. With such growth, financial institutions and banks have increased their effort to compete and dominate their regional and local areas of operation. The formations of new multinational corporations and globalization are the main reasons why investment bankers focus more on international levels.
How To Become An Investment Banker

The road to becoming a successful investment banker needs at least a Masters in Business Administration Degree (MBA). As a matter of fact, there are already applicants that have good knowledge on economics, business, mathematics and finance that are being accepted, even if they come with a science or engineering related degrees.

This can vary a lot depending on what your position is and location where you find yourself working. Typically most local bank branches are going to start you as a teller, regardless of college degree; they have an interesting way of having everyone start at the bottom to prove their worth before moving into other positions.

Tellers are on the cusp of poverty with their wages around $25,000 a year. So, if you are considering doing anything in the banking industry, you should consider being a teller the similar to a doctor’s internship in a hospital. Interns have fierce competition in the medical realm for paid positions and I personally saw several non-paid internship openings for Psychologists where I reside in Colorado. From that view, $25,000 a year doesn’t sound too bad.

Let’s say you pay your dues, then you want to move up to a loan officer, a job in which you are required to have a bachelor’s degree to support your (internship) background, your salary would be around $55,000 a year, more than double the average teller’s salary.

Maybe you are more motivated than that, if so you may consider becoming a branch manager at the bank you started with, but now you probably want to make sure you have your Master’s of Business Administration completed. Also, with an MBA and experience in the banking industry you are not limited to working in a bank anymore. There are countless companies that you could end up working for in the capacity of financial manager, if you happen to land a job within a corporation then you could potentially become a Chief Financial Officer (CFO), in which the salaries often exceed $100,000 a year.

If you grow tired of the banking industry, there are several vocations you could easily move into, especially if you have already earned your master’s degree. Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Personal Financial Advisor (CFP-certified financial planner), or Financial Analyst (CFA-certified financial analyst) are just a few jobs that come to mind and most pay a descent wage, averaging from $45,000 to $75,000 depending on your experience in any particular field.

In my case, I’ve been working for the government as a financial manager for over 20 years and I am planning on taking my chances as a financial planner after my retirement from the military this July. The good news for me is my internship with any company doesn’t necessarily have to be paid because my pension will cover about as much as the teller salary discussed at the beginning.
